Error – malwarebytes unable to connect to service

In this article we will find the solution to the problem: Malwarebytes Antivirus cannot connect to the service. We have detailed different ways to solve it below.

What causes Malwarebyte’s “Can’t connect to service” error?

Malwarebytes is well-known antivirus software that reliably protects your PC from various malicious files such as Trojans, viruses, and spyware. But like all other programs, it can sometimes crash and inform you that “Malwarebytes cannot connect to a service”. So what causes this error?

Malwarebytes stop working when a file important for the system fails to function stably. And when a connection error occurs, the antivirus refuses to start, which leads to its inability to scan your PC. And this already makes your system vulnerable to viruses.

Below we will describe different ways to fix the error

Diagnosing and enabling the MBAM service

The first thing you should do is to check the status of the service itself, because if an anti-virus error occurs, it may be related to an inability to connect to the MBAM service. So before you can move on to more effective measures, you should check this option

This action does not require any special computer knowledge and is very easy to do.

  • First, you need to open the Windows Control Panel and then open the Windows Start menu
  • In the search box, type services or services.msc to find the required application
  • Then click on the “Services” option in the list that appears, find the Malwarebytes service
  • Next, to check its status, click on the appropriate button and see if it is in the “Running” state
  • If the service is suspended, click on the “start” button at the top of the list

You can also set the antivirus status to “automatic” to increase the probability of Malwarebytes running continuously and make sure it won’t shut down again. To do this, go to “Properties” and then click on the Startup Type parameter.

Reinstall Malwarebytes

This is the most effective method, based on user feedback.

If you are using the free version of Malwarebytes it will not be difficult to remove the antivirus, immediately after uninstalling, download the .exe installation file from the manufacturer’s official website, and then go through the installation process.

If you are a user of the paid version of Malwarebytes you will have to perform some additional actions. For this, you will need special activation codes. If you have not saved them somewhere you can get them before uninstalling the antivirus, otherwise, they will be irretrievably lost.

To get the codes, open Windows and enter regedit in the search box to find the “Registry Editor” folder.

Once you have the codes you will have no problem reinstalling Malwarebytes and after this process is complete, reinstall your computer

Don’t forget to make sure you are using the latest version of antivirus, as using an older version can cause additional problems and slow down the system.
